What is PCM?

Phase Change Material (PCM) is a substance that has the ability to undergo a phase transition, changing from one physical state to another, typically from solid to liquid or vice versa. During this transition, PCMs can absorb or release a significant amount of latent heat energy, which makes them valuable in various applications, particularly in thermal energy storage and regulation.

Incorporated into building materials, PCMs play a crucial role in regulating temperature by absorbing excess heat during warm periods and releasing it when temperatures decrease. This phase transition occurs at a specific temperature, customised to the application. PCMs act as thermal batteries, offering a passive and sustainable way to store and release energy, improving energy efficiency, reducing temperature fluctuations and enhancing thermal comfort, from buildings to electronic devices.
